The Future of QuickBooks: Navigating the Discontinuation of QuickBooks 2020

If you are still using Quickbooks Desktop 2020 you have likely seen the red notice saying service is going to be discontinued.

Your access to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments, live technical support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services through QuickBooks Desktop 2020 software will be discontinued after May 31, 2023. This also means you won't receive critical security updates protecting your data starting June 1, 2023.

Why is this happening?  Quickbooks has required you to update your version in the past, but they are now requiring that you not only update but you pay an annual subscription fee to have access to services.  But like most technology, they are wanting people to move to their cloud based software.  Of course subscriptions are also a great way to increase their revenue.

I know this can be frustrating.  I didn't want to make the change for a long time, but I did move to Quickbooks Online many years ago, and I have come to love many features of it.

So since you can't avoid this change, you have the option to upgrade your Quickbooks Desktop version and pay the annual subscription fee, or you can make the jump into Quickbooks Online.

Quickbooks Online is a bit different than desktop if you are used to it, but the features really have improved and it is great for many reasons.  Your accountant will love you also because if you are using Quickbooks Online it makes it much easier for them to help you.

There are several versions of Quickbooks Online to fit the needs of your business.

Simple Start
Essentials

Advanced

I put together a free guide to help you determine which version of Quickbooks is best for you.  So don't forget to grab that.
