Why You Should Own a Business

I was able to spend some time in September in one of my favorite places.  It is peaceful and scenic and a great place to get away from the craziness of life.  While I was there, I did take a few days to unwind, but I was also very hard at work on a number of projects so I can better serve you.  My motto in life is "Work Hard, Play Hard."  I actually enjoy working, but I also enjoy some time off to do my adventuring.  I hope you find ways to do the same in your life.

So while I was gone, I made this video to tell you a little bit about my entrepreneurial journey and to encourage you to create your own journey.  

I followed the traditional path of going to college, getting a degree, and getting a good job.  I worked for a CPA firm and I appreciate the experience I had there because I learned a lot.  However, I did not love going to work when it was dark and coming home when it was dark in the winter months.  After my first daughter was born I talked to my firm and they were willing to work with me and let me work from home and come in to the office one day a week.  Back then that meant bringing big paper files back and forth from the office, but I was grateful for the opportunity to do that.  After my second daughter was born, I realized my focus had shifted and I wanted to be home with my children, but my entrepreneurial spirit kicked in.  I share part of my journey in the video.

What I want to point out to you is there are so many benefits of being an entrepreneur and having your own business.  It has allowed me to work from home and set my own hours, be home with my children, and allow us to have some amazing opportunities to travel as a family.

Convert your ordinary expenses that you would otherwise not be able to deduct into legitimate business expenses.  Create your own schedule, spend time with those you love, and create experiences.  I'm not going to say being an entrepreneur is easy because it is NOT.  I still work hard, but I get to choose the hours I work.
